Docket Navigator  the patent litigation intelligence platform has just added some powerful new law firm case outcome analytics. Docket Navigator which has been around since 2008, offers editorially curated data on courts and  intellectual property cases. The recently launched an interactive law firm ranking feature  allows law firms and in house counsel to take a deep dive into law firm experience and outcomes across the spectrum of patent litigation activities. According to Co-Founders Amy and  Darryl Towell, law firm rankings was the feature most demanded by Docket Navigator customers.

This  feature is not  offering simply  a static list  of law firms but an interactive dashboard which allows researchers to compare law firm experience across multiple dimensions. A researcher can  retrieve comparative views of up to 3 law

Today Lex Machina, a LexisNexis company is making the COVID-10 Impact Analyzer App “COVID App” available to the public for free. It was released on June 1st to Lex Machina subscribers. The COVID app provides insights into the past and ongoing impact of COVID-19 on the federal district court litigation.  The press release cites Lex Machina’s  public interest originals as driving the  public launch which will allow “individuals and organizations to analyze data from new cases filed in the federal district court since February of 2020.” Just to be clear, Lex Machina apps are not phone apps. Lex Machina apps are accessible on a desktop. A public access version of the COVID app is available for free  at this link.

Lex Machina subscribers  using the app can click through to the underlying cases for filings and documents for complaints.

Gavelytics is starting the New Year with the launch of a new AI enabled platform for business intelligence. Gavelytics which is a pioneer in state court analytics offering  has announced the launch a business center which will provide competitive insights into the litigation history of competing firms and opposing counsel for pitches and  identifying business development opportunities.  The press release reprinted below described the new feature  as merging judicial and motion practice technologies with trial court analytics about law firms and litigants. Today Gavelytics announced the addition of millions of trial court dockets, rulings, and other litigation documents from Northern California  including new coverage of Alameda County. They have already begun to expand outside of California with the addition of analytics for Florida and Nevada. In a phone call today I asked  Gavelytics CEO Rick Merrill  which states they planned to launch next. I am pleased to report that Merrill indicated that New York and Texas should be launched in Q4.

New York will be launched in two parts. First the five counties within the boundaries of New York City (New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens and Richmond) will launch.There will be a second launch of  New York counties  which include the counties in the New York metropolitan area  (e.g. Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk) and  the large “up state” counties

During the Great Analytics ‘Shoot-Out’ at AALL, law librarians tested and compared the results of seven federal litigation analytics platforms.

Analytics tools enable lawyers to ask completely new questions and gain insights which were virtually unavailable in a text based research world.  It takes a special skill set to ask the right  “data quality” questions when firms are assessing  the dozens of analytics products competing for a share of lawyers desktop or an organization’s information resource budget.
